Uluwatu Temple
Uluwatu Temple is located in Pecatu Village, Kuta , Regency of Badung. This temple is located on the tip of southwest Bali, located on the top of the reef which is high and steep, also heading to the sea. Uluwatu Temple is one the Sad Kahyangan Temple, One of the six guardian Temple in Bali
In the Beginning this temple was place to worship a Holy Priest from 11 century His name was Empu Kuturan, He taught the villager about Desa Adat and all the rules. This Temple is also place to worship the next Holy Priest, His name was Dang Hyang Nirartha, who came to Bali in the end of 1550 and ended his journey here, Hindu people called it Moksa/Ngeluhur (Eternal freedom) in this Temple. So the name of Pura Luhur Uluwatu is came from this word.
Uluwatu Temple is located in the height of 97 meter from sea level. In front of the temple there is small forest it is called Kekeran Forest as the wall to keep holiness of the temple. Every 210 days is held temple festival according to Bali Calender the day is called Selasa Kliwon Wuku Medangsia. God Rudra is worshiped in this Temple as one of the God manifestation.
Uluwatu Temple is also famous with its Pecatu Beach which is heaven for surfer, many international events was held in this beach
